Wandsworth Street--origin of the name (Hazard Diary 019)

  1. In the year Month of January 1888, the above mentioned Edward Earle, having proposed to open an East and West Road along a portion of the North side of Sea Side Farm,

And crossing Gibson Avenue; each of us to give half of the Land. I acceded thereto, on condition he would make it Sixty feet Land wide, instead of his proposal of Fifty feet wide.          

To this, he promptly assented and to my also, to my request that I might name it.

I then named it “Wandsworth Street”,  This, for reason, that during my Mothers residence in London when she was completing her Education (and being in care of Sir Edmund Head of that city,  she frequently visited Kind friends of hers, who lived at Wandsworth, that is only a few miles South of London.
