Mrs. Sarah Rockwood of the city of Boston, one of the most sincere and upright of mankind, died in Boston in the month of November, 1888.

During his last illness, my brother Rowland G. Hazard endured a great deal of acute suffering, that was so severe, I think a large portion of his family felt that his decease would be a blessing to him, at least.

Under these circumstances I suggested to his son John N. Hazard who believed in the genuineness of the Spiritualism of today, that my Brother Rowland should be advised to have a lock of his hair taken from just behind one of his ears, and enveloped in a letter and sent to Mrs. Rockwood’s address in Boston.

In course [?] of a couple of days or so, Mrs. Rockwood sent a paper, or phial, of medicine that my brother took a portion of at once, and continuing to do so a few days, he ceased to suffer pain, and soon became able to drive out in a carriage, and really enjoyed life, until he somewhat suddenly died on the 20th of June, 1888.

Expenses on Lawsuit with Scoundrel, Rvd.,[?] Francis Wheaton, who had held possession without my knowing, or even suspecting it, that he had fenced and made a portion of his Lot in “Sea Meadow” nearly twenty years, before I discovered it through surveyor Geo. T. Lanphear, and would have become his own property by right of possession, had he succeeded in withholding his Secret from me, only about thirty days longer, and Legal expenses of Receiving, cost Five Hundred & Twenty Five Dollars.

[Transcriber's note: A newspaper clipping about birds is pasted onto this page. Other notes on the page (not transcribed here) are about expenses for the year 1888, noting “Personal Expenses for 1888” totaled “$821.98”.]
